A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after they crashed their car while fleeing from police early Wednesday morning.

According to Miami-Dade Police, at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers were trying to stop a car, but it took off.

The vehicle eventually crashed at SW 56th Street and SW 117th Avenue in Kendall, police said.

At this time, police have closed off SW 56th Street in both directions from SW 117th Avenue to 118th Avenue to conduct their investigation.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue later responded to the crash and pronounced the driver dead on the scene.

The woman, who was a passenger, was transported by MDFR to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition.
