Man Dies Trapped Inside Car In Long Beach Collision


LONG BEACH, CA — A man died trapped inside his car after he was hit by another car in the middle of an intersection near Cambodia Town late Tuesday night, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

the crash was reported at about 11:48 p.m. at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Atlantic Avenue. When officers arrived they found a man trapped inside a 2012 Ford Focus after a collision with a 2012 Lexus IS250.

The Long Beach Fire Department also responded to the scene and declared the Ford driver dead at the scene.

“The Lexus broadsided the Ford in the middle of the intersection causing the Ford to lose control. The Ford struck a traffic signal light and an abandoned building on the northeast corner of the intersection,” LBPD said in a statement.

The Lexus also reportedly lost control and struck a bus bench near the northeast corner of the intersection, police said. The driver of the Lexus, a 31-year-old resident of Long Beach, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation before they were taken to the hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries.

“Speed, distracted driving and impaired driving are being investigated as potential factors in this collision,” LBPD said.

The deceased driver’s identity was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
