MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A 20-year-old man will spend the next 23 years of his life behind bars after being sentenced for an armed carjacking that happened two years ago.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) said that Martavious Marr, 20, committed two carjackings in February of 2022. In the first, officials said Marr walked up to a man at a gas station on North Bellevue, pointed a gun at him and demanded his keys.

After the man told Marr that his keys were in his car and then ran towards the store, Marr shot him in the back, the DOJ said.
Marr took off in the man’s car and then later sold the stolen car on social media for $1,225.
Not two weeks later, on February 13, Marr walked up to a man outside of a bar on Poplar Avenue, pointed a gun at him and demanded his keys. Officials said, along with the man’s 2020 Dodge Journey, Marr also stole the man’s AirPods and a gun.
The second man was able to track his car to Marr’s job, call police and Marr was eventually arrested with that man’s gun in his waistband.
Marr pled guilty to discharging a firearm during a violent crime, brandishing a firearm during a violent crime, possessing a stolen firearm and two counts of carjacking.
After his 275-month sentence in federal prison where there is no parole, Marr has been ordered to serve five years of supervised release.
