Man rams truck through food truck, faces attempted murder charges

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – It was all caught on camera, video shows a man ramming his truck into a food truck at the Cordova Pitstop Food Truck Park Friday evening.

Two men were injured, and another man is behind bars after the incident.

Court records show that police were called to Macon Road and when officers arrived two victims told police that Alton Turner had been drinking at a bar nearby.

Mark Maughmer, one of the victims and owner of the food truck, told Action News Five on a phone call that he told the nearby bar to stop serving Turner liquor because he was becoming belligerent.

“He was drunk, he was belligerent. I got kids and families over there. So, I told the people next door don’t give him nothing else to drink because he can’t handle it,” said Maughmer.

Court records show that Maughmer said Turner was irate that he was cut off from drinking at the bar and began causing a disturbance at the food truck.

In a phone call, Maughmer said that is when everything escalated because Turner started to call him out of his name.

“He was like you told them not to give me anything to drink, I said I did because you are belligerent, and you don’t know how to handle your alcohol. I said as a matter of fact you need to leave,” explained Maughmer. “Then he comes out his mouth with the “N” bomb.”

He said an argument and an altercation happened. Court documents say that Turner walked away, got into a Ford F-250, and then crashed through a fence and drove the truck directly towards Maughmer.

“Grabbed his keys and then he walked back out and said stay right there, I’m going to my truck, I’m going to kill you. He come flying through the fence. Straight through the deck. I had to push Jamarcus, the other guy that was with me out of the way and I jumped up on the food truck. He just slammed, I slammed into my food truck” he said.

Maughmer told Action News Five he is recovering, but his food truck was destroyed after the incident Friday evening.

Jail records show that Turner is in jail on a $75,000 bond. According to court records, he is facing two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 27 at 9 AM.
