Man seriously injured when car rear-ends semi on I-70 in Wyandotte County


KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) – One person was seriously injured late Wednesday when the car she was driving rear-ended a semitrailer on eastbound Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County, authorities said.

The collision was reported at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday near the I-70 and I-435 interchange.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2024 Hyundai Tucson struck the rear of a 2014 Freightliner semitrailer. The Hyundai then overturned as it traveled across the eastbound lanes.

The Hyundai’s driver, Dyimond Walker, 21, of Kansas City, Mo., was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital with serious injuries. The patrol said Walker was wearing his seat belt.

The driver of the semi, Loren May, 66, of Kansas City, Mo., was reported uninjured. The patrol said May was wearing his seat belt.
