Margot Robbie is, unquestionably, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars — and she’s an incredible actor, too.
Margot got her start in the Australian TV soap opera Neighbours back in 2008 — but she truly broke through with audiences worldwide via her star turn as Naomi Lapaglia for Martin Scorsese’s epic The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013.
If you’ve seen the movie, you know that Margot demonstrated the dramatic range that she’s known for today in her performance. Given the scope and intensity of the role, it was undoubtedly a demanding gig — and it also involved a full-frontal nude scene.
Margot explained that, initially, Martin suggested that she wear a robe for the scene — but she decided not to. “That’s not what she would do in that scene,” she said.
“The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked. That’s the card she’s playing.”
Margot also revealed a surprising decision she made while auditioning for the role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio — specifically, slapping him across the face when the scene in question actually called for a kiss.
“I thought, I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be awesome,” she recalled. “I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this. And then I thought…nah. And [I] just walloped him in the face.”
“It was dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds. Then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard, they said, ‘That was great.’ I was thinking, I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure that’s assault, battery.”
“‘Not only will you never work again, actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot,’” she recalled thinking to herself. “‘And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have done it lighter.’”
Obviously, it didn’t hurt her career — and thank God for that! You can listen to the entire interview here.
