Mark Ronson Was ‘Sympathetic’ Towards Ken in ‘Barbie’


Mark Ronson immediately felt like he knew Ken from the future Barbie movie, so he wrote a whole song about it.

I’m just In the movie, Ryan Gosling’s character sings Ken. It sounds like a rock song with an emo touch.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ronson said that he liked the character but wasn’t sure if it would be important in the movie directed by Greta Gerwig.

“You really fall in love with this hapless, but immediately sympathetic figure,” Ronson said of the person who gave him the idea for the song. “I instantly had this idea for this lyric: ‘I’m just Ken / Anywhere else I’d be a 10.’ It just seemed funny. It felt a little bit emo, like, this poor guy. He’s so hot, but can’t get the time of day.”

The musician, who has won seven Grammys, went on to say that he didn’t think Gerwig would like the song so much that she would rewrite an important scene to include it.

When the actor from La La Land heard the song, he loved the idea and demanded that it be turned into a sad ballad.

Ronson also got his “all-time hero” Slash and the new Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese to play on the track.

In a sneak peek of the movie that was just released, Gosling belts out a song and shows off his great singing voice and perfect comic timing.

In the peek, Gosling sings, “I’m just Ken,” as the Ken to Margot Robbie’s Barbie. “Where I see love, she sees a friend. What will it take for her to see the man behind the tan and fight for me?”
