Marshall Women’s Basketball Travels to Face NKU Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Following its comeback win at Chattanooga Sunday, the Marshall women’s basketball team (1-1) heads to the greater-Cincinnati area to face Northern Kentucky (0-2). Tip from Truist Arena in Highland Heights, Ky. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday.

COACH KIM CALDWELL

  • On March 27, 2023, the Coach Kim Caldwell era began for the Marshall University women’s basketball program. Caldwell became the eighth head coach in the history of the Herd. 
  • Caldwell – the Parkersburg, West Virginia native – joins Marshall from Division II Glenville State, where she turned the Pioneers into a powerhouse, going 191-24 in seven seasons, winning the 2022 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship. 

PRE-GAME NOTES

  • The Herd picked up its first victory of the season over Chattanooga last Sunday. The Herd rallied from 18 down to defeat the Preseason SoCon favorites. 
  • Marshall’s Roshala Scott is averaging 29.5 PPG after two games this season. The senior’s 31 points Sunday were a new career-high. 
  • Marshall forced 19 turnovers in Sunday’s win, winning the turnover margin 19-8. The Herd scored 28 points off turnovers, compared to UTC’s 11 points.
  • Marshall and NKU have only met once prior, a Herd 81-79 road win in the 2015 Women’s Basketball Invitational First Round.

ABOUT NKU

  • The Northern Kentucky Norse picked fifth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll. Kaile Davis was named to the conference’s All-Horizon League Second Team. 
  • While Davis has been limited, five players for NKU are averaging over 10 points per game, including Khamari Mitchell-Steen who is averaging 19.0 PPG. 
  • The Norse are 0-2 on the young season, with losses coming to Indiana State and Eastern Kentucky.
