Martin de Groot is fighting the loneliest of battles — trying to increase funding for the arts — following the sudden closure of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and regional council’s decision to slash financial support for TheMuseum.

“It is really the low point,” said de Groot, who worked in the arts sector for decades.
