For the first time in 13 years, Maryland women’s basketball is not ranked in the Associated Press poll.

Maryland was the first team out of this week’s rankings, receiving 48 voting points. Mississippi State, the No. 25 team, received 55 voting points.

The Terps had been ranked in 251 straight polls dating back to the 2010-11 preseason, which was the second-longest active streak behind only UConn. It was the sixth-longest streak in the history of the AP women’s basketball poll.

Maryland was defeated twice in its first four games, first by now-unanimous No. 1 South Carolina and then by No. 6 UConn.

The Terps surrendered 114 points against the Gamecocks, marking the most points conceded in a single game by Maryland in Brenda Frese’s 21 years as head coach. It was only the second instance of a Frese-coached Maryland team allowing an opponent to reach the 100-point threshold.

Against the Huskies, the Terps faltered in the second half, going 6-for-23 from the field and 7-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Maryland then narrowly earned an 83-81 win against Syracuse on Sunday, leveling its season record at 2-2.

After its next contest against No. 23 Washington State on Thursday, Maryland won’t play another currently ranked opponent until Jan. 17 when it takes on No. 15 Ohio State.
