Massachusetts Tennis Opens 2024 Slate With Two Matches – University of Massachusetts Athletics


AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis welcomes Boston College to the Bay Road Tennis Center to open its Spring 2024 schedule on Saturday, January 27, at 1 p.m., before making a trip to Providence, Rhode Island, to take on Providence College on Sunday, January 28, at 4:15 p.m.
 
UMass finished the regular season last year with a 12-7 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Massachusetts also concluded its home schedule with an 8-1 record, including a 16-match win streak, dating from February 12, 2022 to April 8, 2023.  The Minutewomen earned the No. 3 seed in the A-10 Tournament, competing in the semifinals round.
 
At the conclusion of the 2023 season, Danielle Hack and Mariya Krasakova were selected to the A-10 All-Conference Second Team. The team garnered the ITA All-Academic Team honors, while eight individual members were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
 
The Minutewomen return five members of the 2022-23 team, including graduate student Polina Akimova, seniors Hack and Krasakova, and juniors Renata Farima and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul. The Maroon and White added two transfers in junior Mariana Campino and sophomore Ella Faessler, while three freshmen in Alexandra O’Brien, Compassion Tsai and Amelia Tye joined for the year.
 
Scouting Boston College
The Eagles are 1-1 heading into Saturday’s match up. Boston College began the season on the road at Harvard, falling 6-1 to the Crimson, before coming out victorious against Brown, 4-3, last Sunday.
 
Scouting Providence College
The Friars will compete for the first time this spring on Sunday against the Minutewomen. 
 
Next Up
Massachusetts will host Quinnipiac on Saturday, February 3, and St. John’s on Sunday, February 4. Both matches will be played at 1 p.m. at the Bay Road Tennis Center.
