Match funder to stage inaugural arts and culture campaign


Match funding platform Big Give has launched its first campaign to raise money for arts and culture charities.

Its inaugural Arts for Impact match funding campaign will take place over seven days from 19 March next year.

Applications for charities to take part are open until 15 December.

Big Give is aiming to support a wide range of arts and culture charities, which inspire creativity, foster inclusive environments, and promote positive mental health and social skills.

“The arts have the power to transform lives and communities, however, so often art programmes in the UK are inaccessible due to lack of funding,” said Big Give managing director Alex Day.

“This campaign aims to provide funding to charities who are seeking to make a transformative impact in the arts and culture sector.”

For the campaign the platform is partnering with the sector’s network group New Philanthropy for Arts and Culture, whose chair Vernon Ellis added: “This new fund represents a significant opportunity for the arts and culture sector to look for new support beyond traditional arts patronage.

“I would encourage all arts and culture organisations to consider participating in this campaign, to maximise the potential support for their invaluable work.”

The launch of the campaign, which aims to raise £2m for participating good causes, follows pushes by the platform to raise money for environmental charities and around festive giving.

The platform’s most recent campaign, to raise money for women and girls’ charities, raised £1.2m.

Donations from the public through its campaigns are matched by the platform’s philanthropic backers, including the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, Garfield Weston Foundation, The Reed Foundation and the People’s Postcode Lottery.
