At New England Public Media, we remain very much committed to classical music. Earlier this fall, NEPM strengthened its classical music offering by launching a 24-hour classical music service in western Massachusetts.

Today, music lovers like Lisa Greenebaum, whose letter to the editor was published on Oct. 23 [“More classical music needed in the nighttime”], have many options when it comes to listening to Classical NEPM. Its programming airs full time on four local stations: 91.9 FM in Hampden County; 91.7 FM in Franklin County; 89.5 FM in Southern Berkshire County; and 98.9 FM in Northern Berkshire County. Classical NEPM is also on 89.3 FM in Hampshire County when Amherst College student programming is not on the air; the students typically start at 4 p.m. during the semester.

For listeners in the area who have trouble hearing us on FM radio, Classical NEPM is also streaming via smart speaker, at classicalnepm.org, in the new Classical NEPM app, as well as on 88.5 FM HD-2. Ms. Greenebaum’s letter references the recent bequest of $3 million from Walter J. Wolnik, the largest gift in the station’s history. Mr. Wolnik’s gift will be used as he wished, to continue classical music in the overnight hours on Classical NEPM, benefitting all classical music listeners.

We are honored to be a part of his legacy, and we look forward to stewarding the funds and intentions he entrusted to us at the very highest level possible.
