Matthew Perry in his memoir: ‘Jennifer Aniston confronted me about my addictions’

Matthew Perry, who was most remembered for his role as Chandler Bing in the legendary sitcom Friends, tragically passed away on October 28, being found dead at his house in Los Angeles. Even though the cause of his death is not official, the actor’s past issues with addiction are well known.

The remaining Friends cast, according to reports, are completely ‘shocked and distressed’ because of Perry’s unexpected death, but most notably Jennifer Aniston took it really hard, as she was the closest to Matthew before his passing and was regularly in touch with him over the last few years.

Jennifer Anniston confronted him

Over the years of their friendship and the Friends run on TV, it looks like Jennifer Aniston was the most concerned about Matthew Perry’s addictions and struggles, as the late actor wrote in his memoir “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing”, it was Jen who first confronted him about them on the sitcom’s set.

‘I know you’re drinking,’ she said (Jennifer Aniston). ‘We can smell it,’” she said. The plural ‘we’ hits me like a sledgehammer. I know I’m drinking too much,’ I said, ‘but I don’t exactly know what to do about it.

Perry’s struggles with alcoholism and drug abuse took a toll on his quality of life and his pockets, as it is reported that the actor spent around $9 million throughout his life going to rehabilitation and trying to stay sober.

It is unknown if Perry was intoxicated at the time of his death or if drugs and alcohol were involved somehow, as the toxicology reports on his autopsy are still pending. However, around the “Friends: The Reunion” release in May 2021, it was reported that Matthew was 18 months sober at the time.
