Maya Hawke Releases New Track Ahead of ‘Chaos Angel’

Maya Hawke is making waves once more, this time on the music world, rather than the Upside Down. Today, she announced the release of her highly awaited third studio album, Chaos Angel, which will include the introspective and dramatic first single Missing Out.

Following the tremendous success of her previous albums, Blush in 2020 and Moss in 2022, Chaos Angel represents a new chapter in Hawke’s musical career. The album, set to be released on May 31st by Mom+Pop Records, promises a more in-depth study of intimate subjects such as love, loss, and self-discovery.

Hawke creates an intimate and compelling soundtrack in collaboration with longtime partner Christian Lee Hutson, Benjamin Lazar Davis, and Will Graefe.

Missing Out, the album’s debut track, features a gorgeous music video created by Alex Ross Perry. Inspired by a year Hawke spent living near her younger brother’s college, the song has a sad tone, commenting on the longing to relive lost moments and dealing with feelings of regret.

“‘Missing Out’ is about that feeling of wishing you could go back in time and do things differently,” Hawke said in a recent interview. “But ultimately, it’s about accepting where you are and moving forward.”

The melancholy tune, combined with Hawke’s raw and passionate voice, creates an intense sense of desire and acceptance.

Early reviews were excellent, praising the song’s tenderness and depth. Rolling Stone termed it “a hauntingly beautiful exploration of missed opportunities,” and Pitchfork characterized it as “a mature and introspective leap forward for Hawke.”

With Chaos Angel on the horizon and Missing Out setting the tone, Maya Hawke is prepared to cement her reputation as a multi-faceted artist, demonstrating that her creativity extends far beyond Upside Down fights and Hawkins High hallways.
