CEBU, Philippines — Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan is not only a top performing public servant, he’s also a champion sportsman.

Over the weekend, Chan took time out of his busy schedule as Lapu-Lapu City’s Chief Executive to showcase his racquet-wielding skills once again.

And he did it with finesse to add another title in his treasure vault.

Chan, a decorated netter, teamed up with Michael Petalcorin to reign supreme in the C+ category of the Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta Cup 2023 Lawn Tennis Tournament last Saturday night.

They beat the tandem of Dr. Mark Guinocor and Joey Herrera in the final match.

On the other hand, JM Zialcita and John Robert Laña edged past Angelo Galario and Obing Galario to grab the class C crown, while Daiseki Casiano and Reymier Dungog dominated the C- battle after outsmarting Jomie Lim and Ted Arboladora .

Popoy Salcedo and Tonyo Selma ruled in the seniors division after prevailing over Oscar Cornelio and Zaldy Gonzales.

Niel Limpangog and JR Acebes caught part of the spotlight after they bested Roy Mangubat and Glen Abad to lift the champion’s trophy in class B.

It was a double celebration for JR Acebes as he also topped the B- category together with Jerson Norido. They upended Roy Mangubat and Rex Mangubat for the gold medal.

The highly successful tilt was made possible behind the efforts of event chairman Fiscal Ruso Zaragosa assisted by Janvee De la Serna and sports commissioner Vince Chan Carungay. — (FREEMAN)
