MCV and MCA to host Evening for the Environment


Featuring Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson in conversation with Penobscot Nation Ambassador Maulian Bryant

PORTLAND – Maine Conservation Voters and Maine Conservation Alliance will host the annual Evening for the Environment at the University of New England Innovation Hall in Portland, Maine on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m. The Evening for the Environment is a gathering to celebrate the environmental accomplishments of the year, and brings together local leaders, legislators, nonprofit staff, business owners, community advocates, and all who are passionate about protecting the environment and creating thriving communities.

The program will begin with a spoken word performance by Signature MiMi (she/siya/they). She is one half of the eclectic duo Signature Soul, and creates with words, sounds, visuals, space, nature, technology, and community to inspire and share stories of strength, survival, and serendipity.

For the speaking portion of the event, marine biologist, policy expert, and Bowdoin College Roux Distinguished Scholar Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson will be in conversation with Penobscot Nation Ambassador Maulian Bryant. Ambassador Bryant will talk with Dr. Johnson about her insights as presented in her various works. Dr. Johnson co-edited the bestselling climate anthology All We Can Save, co-created the Spotify/Gimlet climate solutions podcast How to Save a Planet, and co-authored the Blue New Deal, a roadmap for including the ocean in climate policy. She is the author of the forthcoming book What If We Get it Right?
