Meet our New Food and Nutrition Director – Sara Salvini – Southeast Polk Community School District

We’re excited to announce that Sara Salvini has joined our Ram Fam as the new Director of Food and Nutrition!  Sara joined the Ram Fam on November 6, 2023. She has been in school nutrition for ten years. Her love for school nutrition started in a kitchen manager position at Urbandale Schools where her passion for child nutrition flourished. She grew her background at Dallas Center Grimes Schools where she had the opportunity to work in multiple buildings, and It was from that experience that she took the role of Food Service Director at St. Pius School for six years.

Sara received her master’s in management and leadership from Western Governors University, her undergraduate in business from Grandview University and a degree in hotel and restaurant management from DMACC.

“The reason that I got into school food service to begin with was because I always worked summer camp in the kitchen, and I loved serving kids. It was an amazing experience for me. Then in sixth grade I was given a career planning book in one of my classes, I landed on Food Service Director, and it was at that point I decided that’s what I wanted to do!”

She and her husband live on an acreage in Norwalk, along with their 4 cats. She enjoys going on hikes, taking care of house plants and gardening.

“I love collaborating and learning and I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the Rams community and positively contribute to our community.”

We’re thrilled you are here!

Sara’s office is in the Jr. High, but she will be out and about in all of the buildings to get to know the building staff and students. Be sure to say hi when you see her!
