Meg Ryan is back at Paris Fashion Week almost four years since she last sat on the front row alongside Pixie Lott (!) at the Schiaparelli couture show. This time round, the beloved ’90s rom-com star was in town to catch the Loewe presentation. Her seat mates? Catherine O’Hara, Pharrell Williams and Emilia Clarke.
The VIP team at Loewe should unquestionably get a raise for the best booking of fashion month. In the game of one-upmanship, where brands lock in stars to exclusively attend their shows, Jonathan Anderson’s team consistently pulls it out the bag by scoring nostalgic yet contemporary line-ups that cause even the most hardened editors to crane their necks iPhones. We imagine Ryan, whose style toes the line between sensible and eccentric, might have been following the directional awards season looks of Loewe ambassador Greta Lee and thought, “There might be a space in this idiosyncratic world for me.” If nothing else, she might get a Squish bag out of it.
There was surely much for Meg to like in the autumn/winter 2024 edit, set in a pasture-green hall and featuring branch-flecked separates and floral minidresses blooming with bouquets. The voluminous cargo pants harked back to a time when Ryan was sleepless in Seattle, while the politer versions of the new ankle boots could certainly have appealed to the preppy-leaning personal style of everyone’s favourite neurotic-yet-naughty nerd Sally Albright. Ryan’s own jaunty check blazer had a touch of When Harry Met Sally charm about it.
