Megan Thee Stallion Teases New Beginnings

“We must shed our past,” the rapper says in her Instagram post

In a post captioned only “Act One,” followed by a snake emoji, Megan Thee Stallion teased a brand new project. In the short video posted to the rapper’s Instagram, the camera draws in on her lips mouthing, “Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past, over and over again.”

We then see a quick glimpse of the singer with eyes like a snake. A side profile exposes her fangs. The video concludes with credits that say, “A story by Megan Thee Stallion,” and “Directed by Douglas Bernardt.”

Fans immediately expressed their excitement over the possibility of new music, noting the tone of the post. “What in the Rocky Horror Picture Show! I’m ready,” wrote one fan, while another remarked, “On the first day of scorpio season? Yeah.”

Whatever the rapper has planned, it will be a self-released project, as previously announced on social media. The singer said she’s still looking for a new label but that she’s “excited” to be dropping music on her own. “I don’t want to sign to a new label right now because I just want to do it myself.”

It would also be her first project since settling a yearlong lawsuit with her former record label. “Megan Thee Stallion and 1501 Certified Entertainment are pleased to announce that they have mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences. As part of the arrangement, both parties have agreed to amicably part ways,” a rep for the label said in a statement. “Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses. All of us at 1501 wish Megan the very best in her life and career.”

The label, founded by retired MLB All-Star Carl Crawford, signed the rapper, whose real name is Megan Pete, in 2018, and she remains the label’s most successful artist.
