Abigail Spencer praised her Suits co-star and friend Meghan Markle for the show’s success and future reboot.
Spencer, who played lawyer Dana Scott and Harvey Spectre’s love interest, joined on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show to discuss her “layered” reactions to the courtroom drama’s growing popularity.
The 42-year-old Mad Men star feels one of the reasons is the interest in the Duchess of Sussex, who previously portrayed Rachel Zane on the programme, which boosted the show’s viewership once more.
“I think there’s several different things,” she told me. “And also, Meghan’s loveliness, you know, that everyone is aware of her and her being on the show.”
Furthermore, Spencer believes that Netflix’s foresight during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, as well as the success of the Sussexes’ docu-series, Harry & Meghan, helped propel the nine-season show to the top of the streaming charts.
“During the strike, there wasn’t anything else,” she said.
“You know, Netflix repositioned it, so I think there is something to positioning on Netflix and when other things aren’t being made, it commands your attention, but it has to be great for people to watch it.”
Suits, which aired for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019, set a new record as the most-viewed purchased streaming title over four years after its series end, garnering 3 billion viewing minutes in its first week, according to Nielsen.
