ATHENS — Delivery began Oct. 9 of more than 200 modules that will comprise the Memorial Health System Athens Medical Campus, the health system announced.

Memorial Health System is expanding and investing in health services and specialties in Athens and surrounding communities with the new facility.

Using Smart Off-Site construction, MODLOGIQ, a leader in off-site construction, has been building the facility in New Holland, Pa., and will deliver it for assembly at the Athens site on Columbus Road. The opening of the 100,000 square foot four-story Athens Medical Campus is anticipated this spring.

The campus will feature an emergency department with 13 rooms, physician offices, outpatient services and open medical space and will be fully equipped with technology and resources including CT scanning, ultrasound, lab services and X-ray services.

Patients will be able to receive treatment for a range of emergency conditions including chest pain, stroke, trauma injuries, severe pain, broken bones, cuts and burns, among others.

“We are very excited to be opening our fifth ER, second freestanding, in Athens this coming spring,” Scott Cantley, Memorial Health System president and CEO, said. “We are driven to build great healthcare that allows people to have local access to the services that we do very well.”

Memorial Health can’t wait for patients to experience the new facility and the care to be provided, enabling them to stay closer to home, he said.

“It’s also good for the Athens community and will bring additional job opportunities for health care professionals in the county and region,” Cantley said.

The new construction has been important in bringing vital healthcare services to the community quicker than conventional construction, Cantley said.

It also contributes to a lower construction cost, also helping to keep healthcare costs down, he said.

The building is the largest permanent healthcare facility in North America built using Smart Off-Site construction.

Other facts about the construction and building are:

A greener method of construction. As it will prevent 400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions

230 tons of construction materials will be recycled and kept from landfills

The 204 modules will travel 475 miles to Athens from New Holland

The average module weight is 51,000 pounds. The heaviest is 62,000 pounds heaviest (pre-built mechanical rooms)

MODLOGIQ has more than 40 years experience in off-site construction of permanent modular buildings.
