MADISON, Wis. – University of Chicago men’s basketball hit the road for their first game away from the Ratner this season when they took on Edgewood College in the Wisconsin state capital. The Maroons used a dominate first half performance and stifling second half defense to stay perfect on the season with a 37-point win over the Eagles on Wednesday.
FINAL SCORE
UChicago – 89
Edgewood – 52
HOW IT HAPPENED
- University of Chicago (3-0) has benefited from big first periods in their two wins to open the season and Wednesday was no exception. The Maroons seemingly couldn’t miss in the first half against Edgewood (0-1), shooting 73.3 percent from the field with a total of 22 field goals made. Seven of those came from behind the arc as UChicago put 55 on the scoreboard in the opening 20 minutes.
- As for their opponent, the Eagles didn’t have a bad first half and made 40 percent of their shots. They just had no answer for a UChicago offense that netted 26 points in the paint and saw Luke Smith and Bryce Hopkins score 14 and 13 respectively in the frame.
- The Maroons cooled off slightly in the second period but still made nearly half of the shots they attempted as everyone who hit the floor got at least four and a half minutes of action in the frame. UChicago still outscored EC 34-21 in the stanza and ran their lead up to as much as 42 with 6:47 left. The Maroons limited Edgewood to just eight field goals in the last 20 as they would go on to win 89-52.
