NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Providence College men’s basketball team defeated the University of Georgia (2-3), 71-64, in the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship Consolation Game on Sunday, November 19 at the Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau, Bahamas. All-Tournament Team selection, Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) led the way for the Friars scoring 19 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and adding five assists. This marked Carter’s first double-double of the season. Josh Oduro (Gainesville, Va.) finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. The Friars improved to a 4-1 overall record on the season under Head Coach Kim English. 
 
“Really, really, proud of our group,” English said. “I thought our guys did an incredible job. Our players did an incredible job at responding to whatever circumstances were thrown at us.” 
 
FIRST HALF:   
• With point guard Jayden Pierre (Elizabeth, N.J.) nursing an injured leg, sophomore Corey Floyd Jr. (Franklin, N.J.) started the game’s scoring with a textbook jumper in the paint.  
• The game sat at 9-9 entering the first media timeout (15:36 mark). 
• With 10:39 left to play in the first half, the Friars shot 0-6 in field goals over a 5:00 minute span, at the 9:38 minute mark, the two teams were tied, 13-13. 
• Oduro snapped the Friars’ field-goal drought with a driving layup at the 8:55 mark, to tie the game, 17-17. 
• With 5:32 on the clock, Rich Barron (Chicago, Ill.) sunk a three-pointer, extending the Friars to a 7-0 scoring run and giving them the largest lead of the game, 26-23.  
• Two players spearheaded their respective team’s offense. In the first half, Oduro recorded nine points, four rebounds, and one assist. Noa Thomasson led the Bulldogs with 14 points, five rebounds, and one assist. 
• Georgia’s RJ Melendez made two free-throws with 40 seconds left to play to close the scoring of the first half. Georgia led, 34-32 at halftime.  
• There were seven ties and nine lead changes in the first half. 
•Both teams took advantage of points off turnovers and points in the paint. In just the first half, Providence scored ten points off turnovers and 20 points in the paint. The Bulldogs scored 11 points off turnovers and 16 points in the paint.  
•Providence shot 13-27 (48.1%) from the field, 2-11 (18.2 %) from three and 4-6 (66.7 %) from the free throw line.    
•Georgia shot 14-34 (41.2 %) from the field, 4-10 (40.0%) from three and 2-2 (100 %) from the free throw line.  Noah Thomasson led Georgia with 14 points in the first half.  
 
SECOND HALF:   
• Hopkins flushed fast-break dunk to start the scoring for the second half and tie the game, 34-34. 
• Providence started the second half strong with a 9-2 scoring drive in the openings 3:17 minutes. Hopkins paved the way with four points. 
• Around the 15-minute mark, Carter scored two back-to-back layups to force a Georgia timeout. Friars led, 43-39.  
•The Friars endured a 3:17 scoring drought. At the 12:25 mark, Georgia’s Noah Thomasson sunk two free-throws to level the score, 45-45. Twenty-four seconds later, Oduro answered with two free-throws to put the Friars back on top, 47-45. 
•At the 12-minute media timeout, three Friars had double digit points, Oduro (14), Carter (11), and Hopkins (11).  
• Oduro picked up the pace late in the second half, recording a seven-point scoring drive over a 3:46 span. Oduro shot 6-7 from the field, 2-2 from three, and 5-6 from the free throw line for game-high 19 points. With 7:57 to play, Friars led, 55-52.  
• The game became a back-and-forth match with two lead changes in two minutes. At the final media timeout (3:48 mark), the Bulldogs led, 58-57.  
• Coming out of the final media timeout, Corey Floyd, Jr., and Devin Carter flushed back-to-back threes to force a Bulldog timeout and regain the lead for the Friars. With 2:23 to go, the Friars were up by five, 63-58.  
• The Bulldogs brought the game within one point and under one minute to play. With 0:44 on the clock, Friars led, 65-64. 
• Providence was able to hold off the Bulldogs and maintain the lead. The Friars went on a 6-0 scoring drive in the final 32 seconds of the game. Corey Floyd Jr., flushed two free-throws with eight seconds left to extend the Friar lead to five, 69-64. Devin Carter finished the game with a layup (0:06 mark), Friars won, 71-64. 
 • Following his strong efforts throughout the Baha Mar Bahamas Championship, Devin Carter was selected to the All-Tournament Team. On Friday, Nov. 17, Carter recorded 17 points in the, 73-70, Overtime loss to Kansas State.
 
NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS:   
•Providence finished 26-56 (46.4 %) from the field, 7-26 (26.9%) from three and 12-14 (85.7%) from the free throw line.    
•Georgia finished 24-63 (38.1%) from the field, 6-19 (31.6%) from three and 10-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line.     
•Four players finished in double figures for the Friars — Josh Oduro (19), Bryce Hopkins (15), Corey Floyd Jr., (11) and Devin Carter (19).  
•Carter hauled a game-high 11 rebounds and five assists for the Friars.   
• Georgia’s Noah Thomasson led the Bulldog offense with 19 points. 
•There were 14 lead changes and 11 ties throughout the match. 
•Tonight was the Friars’ second all-time appearance in the Bahamas. 
•This game marked the first all-time meeting between the two teams. Friar Assistant Coach Dennis Felton was the head coach of the Bulldogs from 2003-09.  His 2008 Georgia team won four games in three days to win the SEC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament. 
• Corey Floyd, Jr. registered his first career start. 
• The Friars have posted a 105-75 mark all-time in in-season tournaments.

•The Friars will play Lehigh University in a non-conference match on Friday, Nov.24 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on FS2.
