BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The Ithaca College men’s basketball team won the consolation game of the Cave Classic on Saturday afternoon against Johnson & Wales, 93-70, on Saturday.
The Bombers made 18 of their 3-point attempts en route to a 93-70 victory over Johnson & Wales at the Tinsley Center in a tournament hosted by Bridgewater State University.
After losing to BSU on Friday night, Ithaca took the lead for good with 12:52 to go in the opening half and improved to 3-1.
Logan Wendell, Gavin Schauder and Triston Wennersten made four 3-pointers each for the Bombers, who shot 45 percent from long range.
Wendell, named to the all-tournament team, and Schauder had 18 points each while Wennersten scored 14 points to go with 11 rebounds and seven assists.
Josh Zangerle, who was selected to the all-tourney team, led Johnson & Wales with 26 points and five rebounds. Also in double figures for the Wildcats (1-3) were Aireus Raspberry with 13 points, six
assists and five rebounds, Izaiah Shaw-Glen with 11 points, seven rebounds and Jonah Phang with 10 points.
Johnson & Wales held a 16-14 lead on a 3-pointer by Zangerle with 13:48 to go in the half, its last advantage of the game.
Ithaca closed the half on a 14-3 run to take a 47-34 lead at halftime, Wendell hitting a 3-pointer in the closing seconds.
Johnson & Wales did not get the deficit under double figures in the second half.
Ithaca held a 34-8 advantage in bench points and the Bombers scored 21 points off 14 turnovers.
