Men’s Basketball falls at Columbia, 76-55 – University of Maine Athletics


Box Score New York, NY – The University of Maine men’s basketball team was defeated by Columbia, 75-56.
 
Columbia jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before the Black Bears came roaring back with a 11-2 run to take an early four-point lead into the first media timeout, capped off by a Ja’Shonté Wright-McLeish three-pointer.
 
Columbia tied the contest back up at 13-13 before the two sides began trading buckets throughout the middle portion of the first half.
 
Columbia went on a 9-0 run to push out in front with an eight-point lead before the Black Bears answered with a quick four-point run with 1:45 remaining in the first half.
 
The Black Bears entered halftime trailing by four at 34-30.
 
Peter Filipovity led all scorers with 10 points (5-for-6) and all rebounders with seven boards. Kellen Tynes had three steals in the first half and three assists. Jaden Clayton had a pair of steals in the first half.
 
Columbia began the second half on a 12-3 run as their lead increased to 46-33 entering the first media timeout of the second half.
 
Maine found themselves behind by 19 with 8:58 before they started to chip away at the deficit following back-to-back three-pointers from Logan Carey and Jaden Clayton.
 
Columbia held onto their lead and defeated the Black Bears, 75-56.
 
Tynes and Filipovity both had 10 points in the contest. Tynes had four rebounds, five assists and four steals while Filipovity had nine rebounds.
 
Clayton had eight points, three rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals in the contest.
 
Maine (4-4) wraps up their six-game road trip on Wednesday against Holy Cross. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 P.M.
