Jacksonville, FL – The University of Maine men’s basketball team dropped a close one against North Florida, 67-58.
North Florida jumped out to an early 11-2 lead behind 11-straight points by Chaz Lanier for UNF.
Maine answered with a 10-3 run of their own to pull back within a bucket heading into the second media timeout of the opening half.
The Black Bears grabbed their first lead of the contest at 10:02 following a Quion Burns corner-three off of a Jaden Clayton assist, a 18-17 lead.
North Florida jumped back in front and moved out to a double-digit lead as they took a 38-28 lead into the half.
Kellen Tynes had eight points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal in the first half. Adam Cisse matched Tynes in scoring and rebounding as he had eight points and three rebounds. Quion Burns had five points to round out the top-three scorers in the first half for the Black Bears.
The two sides traded buckets to begin the second half, with North Florida maintaining their double-digit lead throughout the six eight minutes of the second half before Kellen Tynes made it a nine-point game on mid-range jumper.
Maine followed up the Tynes jumper with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit down to one at 49-48 with 11:02 remaining in the contest.
The Black Bears tied up the contest at 56-56 following a Tynes steal and a Clayton layup in transition.
North Florida pulled back in front with a 11-2 run from over the final six minutes of the contest as they defeated the Black Bears, 67-58.
Kellen Tynes finished the contest with 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Adam Cisse had 10 points and six rebounds while AJ Lopez (8) and Quion Burns (7) rounded out the top-scorers for the Black Bears.
Maine (3-3) remains in Florida as they take on the University of South Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 P.M.
