Men’s Basketball Sinks Buccaneers, 85-83 on Friday Night


MIAMI SHORES, Fla. | The No. 23 University of Alabama in Huntsville men’s basketball team upended Barry by a score of 85-83 on Friday evening to begin the 2023-24 season. UAH starts the new campaign 1-0, while BU opens its season 0-1.
 
UAH was led by Luke Burnett with a team-high 23 points, as the preseason all-conference selection went 6-for-10 from three-point range.
 
Tommy Murr was also strong offensively, with the junior transfer putting up 16 points while shooting 5-for-6 from the free-throw line and collecting a team-best six rebounds.
 
UAH held the advantage after the first half, 48-42, as the squad was led by Murr’s 10 points in the opening frame.
 
The two sides exchanged blows in the second half with the lead changing hands eight times over the final 13 minutes. Barry took an 83-81 late in the contest before Burnett sank his sixth three-pointer of the night to put the Chargers back in front. A Burnett free throw with 14 seconds remaining led to the game’s final score of 85-83.
 
UAH is back in action tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. CT in Miami Shores, Fla. to take on last season’s national champion Nova Southeastern. The two sides last met in the NCAA South Regional Final on March 14th where the Sharks advanced to the Elite Eight by an 87-62 score.
