Men’s Basketball Travels to Virginia State Wednesday – Bowie State University Athletics


BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men’s basketball team is taking their win streak on the road against Virginia State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 21. This will be the nightcap game of a doubleheader featuring the women’s game beginning at 7:30 p.m. 

The doubleheader will be streamed live on the CIAA Sports Network.

About Bowie State
The Bulldogs (10-15, 5-10 CIAA, 4-4 North) extend their win streak to three games after a close win against Bluefield State, 79-78. BSU dramatically won against Big Blue as Caleb Johnson sank the game-winning three-pointer with 10 seconds left. The Bulldogs shined offensively with five players scoring in double-figures. Warren Mouganda led the team in scoring with 20 points followed by Anthony Carpenter with 15 points, Johnson with 14 points, Joel Webb with 13 points, and Kevon Corley with 11 points. BSU took advantage in the open court scoring 17 points on fastbreak opportunities in the win. 

Mouganda leads the Bulldogs in scoring (13.4 ppg) while Webb leads the CIAA in field goal percentage (62.2 percent) and the team in rebounds (6.0). BSU is currently tied for third in the Northern Division standings.

About Virginia State  
The Trojans (13-13, 7-8 CIAA, 4-4 North) are coming off a loss at the hands of Elizabeth City State, 79-76. VSU started strong leading the game 38-33 in the first half but couldn’t maintain the lead being outcored by eight points in the second half. VSU showed their strength on the boards outrebounding the Vikings 37-26. The Trojans had four players score in double-figures with Jonathan Norfleet leading the way with 19 points. VSU is currently in a three-way tie for third place in the Northern Division standings.

Bowie State will travel to Lincoln University (Pa.) on Saturday, Feb. 24th for a divisional matchup slated for 4:00 p.m. from Manuel Rivero Gymnasium. The game will air live on the CIAA Sports Network.
