CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s tennis team captured two wins during the second day of competition at the Cooper Outdoor Advertising Islander Open Saturday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. 
 
The tournament will wrap up Sunday with doubles action starting at 9 a.m. 
 
UTRGV’s freshmen doubles duo of Ivo Isqueiro and Hasith Gummuluru got the day started with a hard-earned 7-6 (7:5) win in the Flight A West semifinal over Prairie View A&M’s (PVAMU) Abdulraheem Isa/Jaydn Boone. They’ll play Nicolas Llosa/Jake Faryniarz from St. Mary’s in the final. 
 
In singles, sophomore McAllen Memorial alum Agustin Salazar picked up a tough 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10:6) victory over PVAMU’s Diego Hatem Arias in the Flight A west semifinal to move on to the final. He’ll face Rice’s Petro Kuzmenok on Sunday. 
 
Isqueiro dropped an absolute duel in the Flight C semifinal. He and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s (AMCC) Iannis Fernandes went toe-to-toe in a competitive match that Fernandes took, 7-6 (7:5), 7-6 (14:12). Isqueiro will play Lamar’s Haruki Omori-Cowie at 11 a.m. in the Flight C 3-4 playoff. 
 
Gummuluru will be in the Flight D 3-4 playoff against Nicolas Trebuchet of AMCC at 11 a.m. after dropping a 6-1, 6-0 match to St. Mary’s Ian Freire.
