Men’s Tennis Claims Eight Wins on First Day of Regionals


Cary, N.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis had a successful first day of action at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships on Friday. Out of a draw of 128, the Gamecocks have advanced four players into the round of 32.

In his first round of action, sophomore Lucas Andrade da Silva defeated The Citadel’s Sebastian Kamienicki in a quick 6-2, 6-1 result. He went on the take down Duke’s Michael Heller 6-3, 6-3 in the second round to advance.

Freshman Sean Daryabeigi also had a pair of quick, two-set victories on the day, defeating Hugo Hidalo Vega (NC Central) 6-4, 6-0 and Tomas Balazi (Campbell) 6-2, 6-1.

No. 49 Casey Hoole has made a strong start towards defending his Carolina Region title. The junior took down Alex Horn (Wofford) 6-3, 6-4 and John Spring (Gardner-Webb) 6-1, 6-2.

South Carolina’s fourth player to advance to the round of 32 is redshirt freshman Jelani Sarr. Sarr took down Saidamin Albarov (NC A&T) 6-4, 6-0 before besting Pol Otin (Campbell) 6-3, 6-2.

The Gamecock’s only loss of the day was Carter Morgan who fell to Clemson’s Stewart Aronson 6-3, 6-4 in the first round.

The Carolina Regional Championships will continue on Saturday with both doubles and singles play. Draws and results will be available on the tournament webpage.
