The Hope College men’s tennis team proved themselves on the road for a spring opener victory.
A Friday afternoon win over The College of Wooster, 5-4, moved the Flying Dutchmen to 1-1 this season.
The veteran and newcomer mix proved to fare well as Hope started strong, taking two of three doubles play victories.
Senior John Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier HS) and freshman Rylan Doden (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Blackhawk Christian) banded together to get an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, and freshmen Paul Schneider (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) and Cooper Nugent (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Rochester Adams) nabbed an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Schneider got Hope further ahead in the win column as he took home the first singles win of the match, 7-6 (4) and 6-1, at No. 2 singles.
Nugent gave Hope another victory in No. 5 singles play, 6-1 and 6-2, after the Scots would take three consecutive flight wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles.
Voss used an electric 6-3, 6-3 win in No. 6 singles to clinch the victory, earning the first Orange and Blue victory of the season.
Hope returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 27, facing off with Ohio Northern University on the road at 2 p.m.
