Eastern Illinois men’s tennis picked up two wins in singles play and nearly captured the doubles point as the Panthers lost 5-2 to IUPUI on Saturday afternoon at the Danville Tennis Center.
EIU picked up a win at No. 2 doubles with Pau Riera and Thomas Wallace wining 6-2. The doubles point came down to the match at No. 3 doubles with IUPUI edging EIU 7-5 with Jon William Karlstad and Zach White playing at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play Karlstad picked up one of the two singles wins for the Panthers winning at No. 4 singles with a 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2 win over Blessing Benibo.
EIU’s other point in the Sunday afternoon match came at No. 2 singles with Cameron Slabbert collecting a two-set win over Emil Jankowski winning 6-1, 7-5.
Two other matches were highly competitive with Riera losing at No. 1 singles and White losing at No. 5 singles after having to slide up in the playing order. Riera lost 7-5, 6-2 while White lost 7-5, 6-0.
EIU fell to 0-3 on the season.
