Men’s Tennis Defeats Saint Mary’s in a Nonconference Match on Sunday

MORAGA, Calif. – Santa Clara men’s tennis took the first four of five points on their way to defeating Saint Mary’s 4-3 in a nonconference match on Sunday.  The match served as a replacement to the matches both schools were scheduled to face last weekend against Idaho but had to cancel due to rain. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Santa Clara (2-0) won the doubles point on the clincher by Sebastian Buxman and Arjun Honnappa over Felipe Rincon and Paulo Etchecoin 6-4 on court three after SCU and Saint Mary’s split the first two matches. 
  • The Broncos extended the lead to 3-0 by winning the first two singles matches, first by Guillaume Dalmasso on court two followed by Alexander Watanabe Eriksson on court six. 
  • Saint Mary’s (0-3) got on the scoreboard with a win on court four by Paulo Etchecoin over Luca Lemaitre 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
  • Christian Lerby came back from a set down to defeat Carlos Membrives 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Broncos. 
  • The remaining two matches were played out and won by Saint Mary’s for the final margin of 4-3 in favor of Santa Clara.
