LINCOLN, Neb. – The Creighton men’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Nebraska on Sunday, Jan. 21 at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln.
With the loss Creighton fell to 2-2 on the year, while Nebraska improved to 4-0 following another pair of victories on Sunday.
“Today was a lot closer match than last week,” said head coach Gerhard Posch. “We were able to improve on some aspects this last week that helped us today, but we still have things we want to work on.”
Battling in a tight doubles match, Nebraska earned the first point of the evening with a pair of victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions.
The Cornhuskers’ Shunya Maruyama and Leo Linquet opened the match with a 6-3 triumph on court No. 3 to give Nebraska an early advantage. The Bluejays, however, answered with a 7-6 (9-7) tiebreaking win on court No. 1 by seniors Matthew Lanahan and Zack Maline to even the contest at one match apiece. Nebraska then captured the doubles points with a 7-5 win at the No. 2 doubles position over Creighton’s Shin Inoue and Zachary Kuo.
Carrying momentum into singles play, Nebraska earning straight-set victories at the top three singles positions to blank the Bluejays.
Creighton returns to action on Friday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. as the Bluejays travel to battle Chicago State in the Windy City.
