OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss men’s tennis (4-0, 0-0 SEC) cruised through a busy doubleheader day against Tennessee State (0-5, 0-0 Horizon League), as the Rebels were able to grab a 7-0 and a 4-0 win over the Tigers to sweep through their competition on the chilly Sunday.
The Rebels put together a well-rounded performance throughout the day, not dropping a single set in singles or doubles. Ole Miss also has yet to give up a point in its first four matches of the spring session.
The Rebels captured an early advantage after securing the doubles point against the Tigers. John Hallquist Lithen and Carson Baker were put to the test on court three, but defeated their opponents, 6-4. Isac Stromberg and Brice Patoux followed closely after with a 6-4 victory of their own to lock down the doubles point in the Rebel’s favor.
Heading into singles, the team kept their momentum going by winning in straight sets on all six courts. Stromberg and Engelhardt kicked started singles for the Rebels with 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 victories, respectively.
No. 99 Slavic clinched the opening match versus the tigers with a 6-2, 6-2 win on the primary court. Patoux, Baker and Lithen rounded out the first match with wins on their respective courts, completing a 7-0 sweep in favor of Ole Miss.
Match two started similar to the first competition as the Rebels secured wins on courts two and three. Patoux and Stromberg tallied a perfect 6-0 matchup followed by Baker and Lithen pulling out a 6-2 win to mark the Rebel’s ninth doubles win this spring.
Riding the high of doubles, Baker and Stromberg rolled to easy wins on courts six and three in order to complete their perfect days. Lithen capped off the full day for the Rebels with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to mark his 60th career singles victory.
“I thought we had a solid day today overall,” head coach Toby Hansson said. “I think our tennis level was better today and I feel like the guys are starting to get more comfortable playing as as a team.”
