MEN’S TENNIS EARNS WIN OVER EASTERN ILLINOIS, 5-2


CHARLESTON, Ill. – The IUPUI men’s tennis team earned their second win of the season on Sunday afternoon when they defeated the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 5-2. Four Jaguars recorded singles points to seal the win.
 
IUPUI started off strong in doubles play with two Jaguar pairings earning wins, taking the doubles point. Blessing Benibo and Kamil Kozerski won the number one doubles match, 6-3 to start the match off. Noah Viste and Will Thurin fell in the number three spot, 6-2 to even doubles play at 1-1. Emil Jankowski and Steven Paz sealed the doubles point with a 7-5 win in the number three spot.
 
After taking a 1-0 lead, the Jags recorded four singles points to earn the win. Kozerski took the number one singles match in two sets, 7-5, 6-2. Jankowski quickly got out to a lead in the number two singles match, winning the first set 6-1. He then sealed the point with a 7-5 second set victory.
 
Luka Rodic earned the number five singles point in two sets, 7-5, 6-0. Sophomore Eli Mercer earned the fifth point for the Jags with a two set victory at number six singles, 6-2, 6-1.
 
Paz fell in the number three spot, 6-0, 6-2 and Benibo rounded out the lineup in the four spot, falling in three sets, 7-5. 6-7. 6-2.
 
With the win, the Jaguars improve to 2-3 on the season and will return to Indy to host Marquette on February 3.
