Winston-Salem, N.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis had a successful weekend of action at the Wake Forest Fall Invite, going 13-6 overall in singles and 4-2 in doubles across three days of play. The weekend also included a doubles draw victory courtesy of Lucas Andrade da Silva and Casey Hoole.
Da Silva and Hoole paired up together for the first time this season and found success, going a perfect 3-0 to win their draw. The pair defeated JMU’s Youssef Sadek and Julian Lozano 6-4 in the first round, Dimitirs Paliouras and Aaron Williams of Georgia Southern 6-1 in the second round, and North Carolina’s Logan Zapp and Peter Murphy 6-4 in the draws title match.
Also in doubles, freshmen Sean Daryabeigi and Jelani Sarr paired up for the first time together in collegiate action. The duo claimed a 7-5 win over Alexander Visser and Teddy Trywit of Duke in their first-round match but fell in their next two matches together.
In singles play, three Gamecocks put up 3-1 records on the weekend. Hoole and Daryabeigi both claimed three straight set wins on the weekend while Sarr had one straight set win, a win in three sets, and a ranked win over No. 65 Alejandro Moreno of Auburn after the Tiger had to retire while Sarr was up 4-1.
Da Silva went 2-2 in singles at the event while Carter Morgan went 2-1. Both Gamecocks claimed their wins with one coming in straight sets and the other in three sets.
Through the end of fall play, Daryabeigi and Da Silva both lead the team with each having a 10-4 record. Daryabeigi’s record includes the first ranked win of her career – an upset of the nation’s No. 106 player Anuj Watane of North Carolina that the Gamecock claimed at the Carolina Regional Championships.
Overall on the fall season, head coach Josh Goffi’s five-man squad went a combined 44-29 (.603) in singles play.
The Gamecocks will resume action in the spring with dual play. A spring schedule is set to be released in the coming weeks.
