FORTH WORTH – The Princeton University men’s tennis team fell just short in a hard-fought battle with Tulsa, 4-3, in its opening match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
“Credit to Tulsa for playing well in key moments to get the win in a very tightly contested match,” said Head Coach Billy Pate. “We had ample opportunities, including a match point for the doubles point, to seize momentum. In singles we made a strong push, but again, just didn’t convert on crucial points and missed numerous opportunities that made the difference in the outcome. We’ll see Tulsa again at their place in two weeks and we are counting on improving from this experience to be better in that one. We’re confident we’ll bounce back tomorrow with the utmost in focus and energy against Rice or TCU.”
In doubles, Paul Inchauspe and Landon Ardila overcame Thiago Pernas and Pierce Rollins at No. 1, 6-4.
In Singles, Sec earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 74 Alex Okonkwo at the No. 3 position while No. 87 Ellis Short took down Volodymyr Zakharov 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4. At No. 5, Ardila upended Timo Carlsson Seger 6-4, 7-6.
