KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men’s tennis team heads to Purdue University this weekend to take on the Boilermakers on Friday at 5 p.m. and Denver on Saturday at 2 p.m.
LAST WEEK
The Broncos opened the Spring season going 2-1 last week with wins over Ferris State and Brown, while falling to No. 22 Michigan State. WMU took down FSU 6-1, only dropping the doubles point. The Broncos then fell at MSU 6-1, before rebounding the following day with a 5-2 win over the Bears.
EARLY ACCOLADES
Junior Anton Arzhankin was named MAC Singles Player of the Week after going 3-0 at No. 2 singles last week. The Moscow, Russia, native earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ferris State’s Erik Kovacs. In WMU’s loss at No. 22 Michigan State, he defeated Aristotelis Thanos, 6-4, 6-4. In the Broncos’ 5-2 win over Brown he defeated Tim Dzhurinskiy 7-5, 6-3.
SUCCESS IN BIG 10 COUNTRY
Western Michigan heads to Purdue looking for its third-straight season with a win over a Big 10 program. The Broncos defeated the Boilermakers last season, 4-3, in West Lafayette. In the 2021-22 season, WMU took down Michigan State in Kalamazoo.
ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan returns home for three straight matches in Kalamazoo. The Broncos host Butler at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10 and then welcome Cornerstone University later that night at 7 p.m. The Illinois State RedBirds come to town on Friday, Feb. 16 for a 3 p.m. first serve.
