Men’s Tennis signs international standout Gilles-Arnaud Bailly – University of Texas Athletics

Austin – University of Texas Men’s Tennis has signed international standout Gilles-Arnaud Bailly to an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Bruce Berque announced Tuesday. Bailly will enroll and join the program this January.

“Gilles’ commitment to join us this coming January is massive for our program,” Berque said. “His No. 1 ITF world junior ranking last year, along with his recent wins over high level ATP Tour pros, demonstrates that he has a chance to have a very bright future in the sport. We are thrilled he has chosen to join his brother as a Longhorn, and we appreciate his trust in us to help him stay on course toward his long-term goals.”

“I feel really excited to be coming to Texas,” Bailly said. “To share this experience with my brother and the rest of the team is just amazing. I’m looking forward to playing many high-level team matches on outdoor hard courts, which I expect to be great for my development. I love the culture of the team, and I can’t wait to get there and be a part of it.”

A native of Bilzen, Belgium, Bailly is the brother of current Longhorns junior Pierre-Yves Bailly and was rated as the top juniors player in the world in the year-end rankings for 2022. He is currently ranked his career high of No. 474 in singles by the ATP.

Bailly has won two ITF men’s singles titles this year, including the M25 Santa Margherita di Pula in Italy, and the M15 Antalya in Turkey.

In juniors, he was the singles runner-up at both the 2022 US Open and Roland Garros, while also reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon where he was also a doubles quarterfinalist that year. Additionally, he was a singles quarterfinalist at the US Open in 2021.

Bailly also won six ITF juniors singles titles that included the 2022 European Junior Championships in Switzerland, the J1 Villena in Spain, and the J1 Casablanca in Morocco, in addition to four doubles titles, to go along with being a singles finalist at three others and a doubles finalist at two others.
