SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Tim Zelikovsky teamed with freshman Liam Kilmer to provide the clinching doubles point, and then Zelikovsky came back to win a three-setter in singles to cap off Bucknell’s 7-0 victory over Saint Francis in team’s spring opener on Saturday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center.

Sophomores Amar Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald were also two-time winners, as they teamed for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles along with straight-set singles victories.

The Red Flash, who debuted with a 5-2 loss to Navy last week, evened the doubles with a win on Court 2, but Zelikovsky and Kilmer put the Bison in front in the match with a 7-6 win over Kevin Kruzel and Zach Palko at No. 3 doubles.

Bucknell did not need long to clinch, as Tahirovic (6-2, 6-2 at No. 1), sophomore Adam Stavrakas (6-2, 6-2 at No. 2), freshman Will Robinson (6-2, 6-4 at No. 6), and McDonald (6-2, 6-0 at No. 5) all won convincingly in singles. Robinson won the final three games after trailing 3-4 in the second set, which provided the clinching point.

Sophomore Oscar Bain was tested at No. 3 by Alan Gonzalez but prevailed 7-5, 6-4, and then Zelikovsky finished the day with a thriller against Mathis Tremblay at No. 4. Zelikovsky won the first set in a tiebreaker, Tremblay returned the favor in a second-set tiebreaker, and then Zelikovsky took the match with a 10-5 win in the super tiebreaker.

Bucknell hits the road next weekend to play a pair of dual matches at the Binghamton Invitational. The Bison will take on NJIT on Saturday and either Binghamton or Siena on Sunday.
