PHILADELPHIA– Temple men’s tennis (1-1) will continue its road stretch at University Park, Pa., beginning with a match on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. against the University of Toledo (2-2) at the Sarni Tennis Center. The Owls will then return to the Sarni Tennis Center to face Penn State University (1-0) on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.
THE OWLS
– To open the 2024 season, the Cherry and White went 1-1, falling to Old Dominion University and topping Norfolk State University. The Owls swept the Spartans in doubles action, while Dante Russo, Adam Kresina, and Pranav Nemani earned points for Temple in singles play.
– After a 19-5 2023 season without a loss at home, Temple fell to No. 1 Memphis at USTA Tennis Center in the opening round of the AAC Championship, 4-2.
– In the fall, Temple sent two student-athletes to Tulsa, Okla. to participate in the ITA-All American Championship Tournament: Gregoire Barety and Dante Russo.
– As a team, the Owls kept busy in the fall. They participated in the Penn Invite, playing the likes of the University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, and Liberty from Sept.15-17, the ITA All-American Championship Tournament in Oklahoma from Oct. 1-3, and both Navy Invitationals from Oct. 15-17 and Nov. 9-11.
Scouting University of Toledo
– The Rockets have played four opponents since the start of their season on Jan. 13, winning against Butler University, 4-3, and Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis 5-0, and falling to Indiana University Bloomington, 2-5, and the University of Illinois, 0-4.
– Pawit Sornlaksup was ranked the No. 68 singles player in the country after his run in the ITA All-American Championships and ITA Midwest Regionals.
– The team won the Mid-American Conference Championships in the spring of 2023, finishing the regular season with a record of 18-6.
Scouting Penn State
– The Nittany Lions started their season with a win over Cleveland State University, 4-3.
– PSU completed the 2023 spring season with a 15-12 record, losing to IUPUI in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.
