PHILADELPHIA- Temple men’s tennis (1-3) will travel to Hamden, Connecticut to face Quinnipiac University (1-2) on Fri., Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. The Owls will then take on Yale University (2-0) on Sat., Feb. 3 at noon.
THE OWLS
– Temple opened their season with a win against Norfolk State, coming up short in its last three match days against Old Dominion, Toledo and Penn State.
– Dante Russo, Aayush Bhat, and Erden Er have each won two singles matches to start the season.
– After a 19-5 season, without a loss at home, Temple fell to No. 1 Memphis at USTA Tennis Center in the opening round of the AAC Championship, 4-2.
– In the fall, Temple sent two student-athletes to Tulsa, OK to participate in the ITA-All American Championship Tournament: Gregoire Barety and Dante Russo.
– As a team, the Owls kept busy in the fall. They participated in the Penn Invite playing the likes of the University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Liberty from Sept. 15-17, the ITA All-American Championship Tournament in Oklahoma from Oct. 1-3, and both Navy Invitationals from Oct. 15-17 and Nov. 9-11.Scouting Norfolk State
Scouting Quinnipiac
– The Bobcats opened their season with a 7-0 loss to St. John’s, followed by a win against Hofstra (4-3) and second loss to Yale (6-1).
– The Bobcats were selected second in the MAAC preseason Coaches’ Poll, receiving 43 points and two first-place votes.
– QU played in three events in its fall season, finishing with an overall singles record of 23-15 and a doubles record of 14-13
Scouting Yale
– The Bulldogs won their first two matches of the season against Fairfield (7-0) and Quinnipiac (6-1).
– At ITA Men’s Super Regionals this fall, Yale’s Theo Dean and Vignesh Gogineni achieved doubles semi-finals. Dean is nationally ranked by ITA as No. 60 in singles action while Gogineni is ranked No. 100.
– The tandem of Dean and Aidan Reilly sit at No. 39 of ITA’s national doubles rankings.
