Men’s tennis well-represented in national rankings


GRANVILLE, Ohio (November 16, 2023) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has released the NCAA Division III Men’s National and Regional Singles and Doubles Rankings, and Denison University had three singles players and one doubles pair earn a national ranking.

The National Rankings include the Top 50 singles players and Top 25 doubles teams, while the Regional Rankings include the Top 20 singles players and Top 10 doubles teams.

National Rankings:

Singles
Kael Shah – No. 17 – 11-1 in the Fall season – advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Central Regional Championships – won the singles championship at the Skidmore Invitational.
Ethan Green – No. 19 – 8-4 in the Fall season – advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Central Regional Championships – advanced to the finals of the Skidmore Invitational – 2023 Third-Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference.
Jacob Patterson – No. 36 – 7-2 in the Fall season – advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Central Regional Championships – advanced to the quarterfinals of the Skidmore Invitational – 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year – 2023 First-Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference.

Doubles
Kael Shah / Ethan Green – No. 8 – 7-3 in the Fall season – advanced to the finals of the ITA Central Regional Championships – advanced to the finals of the Skidmore Invitational – won their first-round matchup at the ITA Cup to earn All-American status for the 2023-24 season.
 

Central Region Rankings:

Singles
Kael Shah – No. 5
Ethan Green – No. 6
Jacob Patterson – No. 10

Doubles
Kael Shah / Ethan Green – No. 4
Jacob Patterson / Andy Mackler – No. 9 – 4-0 in the Fall season – won the doubles championship at the Skidmore Invitational.
 

Denison ended its 2023 season with a final record of 26-4, setting a new program record for wins in a single season for the second year in a row. Denison won both the NCAC regular-season and tournament championships, marking the third straight conference championship season for the Big Red in three years under the direction of Head Coach Schilling. Denison then secured four straight victories in singles as the Big Red defeated the University of Mary Washington 5-2 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Tournament held at Case Western Reserve University. Denison’s win over Mary Washington marked the third win in program history at the national tournament, but it was Denison’s second win at the national tournament in the last two seasons after a 24-year gap between wins before that.
