Men’s Tennis Wraps Up ITA Midwest Regionals – Western Michigan University Athletics


ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Western Michigan men’s tennis team wrapped up the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regionals at the University of Michigan over the weekend.
 
Senior Benjamin George and junior Anton Arzhankin had automatically qualified for the Round of 64 and then advanced to the Round of 32 after wins. George defeated Northern Illinois’ Mikael Vollbach in two sets 6-1, 6-1. Arzhankin got the best of Notre Dame’s Jameson Corsillo in two sets 6-4, 6-3. Senior Jackson Boone had advanced to the Round of 64 after two wins in the qualifying group, but fell to Illinois’ Kenta Miyoshi 7-5, 6-2.
 
Unfortunately, both George and Arzhankin dropped their Round of 32 matches. George fell in two sets to Ohio State’s Bryce Nakashima, 6-3, 6-3. Arzhankin was bested by Illinois’ Karlis Ozolins in two sets, 6-1, 6-4.
 
Western Michigan returns to action on Friday at the Cleveland State Invitational.
