A community staple is back open after a car slammed into it for the second time in a year.The Northern Vessel coffee shop on Keosauqua Way welcomed people back through its doors Monday morning. The shop’s owner told KCCI that the people who live above the store reported that they felt it when a car crashed into the building in the early morning hours last Wednesday. This was the second time in less than a year that a vehicle has crashed into the coffee shop. In August 2023, a stolen vehicle slammed into the building. The coffee shop reopened less than a week after that crash.Owner T.J. Rude told KCCI that the support from the community has been overwhelming.”Obviously, this is our second time this has happened, so I think our team rallied really quickly,” he said. “And I think we just knew it was so important for us to get right back to it.”Rude said he does not have a timeline for when construction to fix the damage will be complete.
