Mid-Ohio Food Collective hosts Bibb’s Boo Bash to help families

Food insecurity impact families across Ohio. To help families in need, the Mid-Ohio Food Collective is working to end hunger across our region.

They hosted Bibb’s Boo Bash, a family friendly Halloween-themed event on Sunday morning for families to learn more about their mission to feed those in need.

While families were able to go trick-or-treating inside the facility, they also learned the operations of the largest anti-hunger organization in Central Ohio.

“I love the Mid-Ohio Food Collective,” Becky Baker said. “We’ve been able to in the past when we needed help to come to the mid-Ohio food bank and use their resources and we’ve been able to donate what we can when we can.”

She brought her family to enjoy the family friendly games and events.

Organizers say for every one dollar donated they’re able to distribute up to $4.89 worth of food and groceries to families.

“Food is health and food is nutrition,” MOFC director Craig Truax told ABC 6, “and for us to be able to distribute more food that is fresh for our community gives folks a need for an opportunity to be able to fill their plates with healthy nutrient dense foods that are essentially going to have healthier impacts on their lives.”

Last year, the organization distributed nearly 80 million pounds of groceries to families Truax as 67-percent of that was fresh food.

As the holiday season approaches, they are hoping for more volunteers and donations to help feed families in need. Baker said she helps anyway she can.

“You don’t realize when bad luck is going to hit somebody, and it can be very hard to reach out when you do need help and someplace like the food bank here,” she said. “They’re very open they’re very compassionate they’re just willing to. They want to help the community.”

Organizers say being an advocate is just as important as being a donor. You can become an advocate by sharing their content and spreading the word on the collective services and how they help the community.
