WHITEVILLE – Ellen Battle poured in 19 points to lead Elizabethtown to a 42-22 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Whiteville Central Tuesday.
Battle powered in a pair of baskets to start the game, and teammates Sana’a Singletary and Racquel Whittington dropped in a basket each as the Lady Cougars edged in front 8-7.
Singletary took charge in the 2nd period dominating the inside play with 5 baskets. Battle tossed in 2 more baskets, and Whittington and Zariyahh Riddy pumped in a basket each as Elizabethtown opened up a 26-12 halftime lead.
Battle worked the paint for 3 more baskets in the 3rd quarter as the Lady Cougars maintained a 32-19 lead. Battle and Whittington filled up the rims with 2 baskets each in the final period and netted a free throw each.
Singletary followed Battle on the Elizabethtown scoring list with 12 points, and Whittington rang up 9 points. N. Show led the Lady Hornets with 9 points, and D. Young tallied 7.
Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars improved to 3-1 and will travel to Tabor City Thursday.
