THAT MEANS MORE THAN 93,000 PEOPLE IN OUR AREA DON’T ALWAYS HAVE ACCESS TO ENOUGH FOOD FOR AN ACTIVE, HEALTHY LIFE. The need for help from food pantries is high, and it’s only growing as we get closer to Thanksgiving. Brian Bolling, interim neighborhood minister at All Peoples Gathering Church, says it’s shocking. “The need has gone through the roof,” Bolling said. “We should be appalled at the need.” At the beginning of the year, he says the food pantry served 35-40 people weekly. This week, ahead of Thanksgiving, they served 180. “It’s very tough,” Bolling said. According to Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries and local meal programs, 9.9% of people in Milwaukee County are food insecure.
